MatchPal grew from a Google Sheet into a thriving residency advising and tutoring company serving hundreds of medical students. It worked because founder Dr. Daniel Veyg personally ran every order, match, and session. By 2025, that was the problem. In four months, Dalo built the platform that took him out of the loop: today 94% of matches happen without him.
The client
Dr. Daniel Veyg is an interventional radiology resident who saw a gap in the market: medical students, especially DO students, navigating the brutally competitive residency match with nowhere to turn for specialized advising. In 2022 he founded MatchPal, connecting students with a hand-picked network of physician advisors and tutors, and later expanded into specialty boot camps and OMM test prep. The model worked: over 1,000 students guided, a 99.3% specialty match rate, 84% of students matching within their top three ranks. The business grew every year.
The breaking point
Here's what "the model worked" actually looked like. Every purchase triggered a chain that only Dan could run: an emailed Google Form, answers landing in a spreadsheet, Dan hand-picking the right advisor, Dan asking the advisor if they'd take the student, Dan brokering the introduction over email, and then a Google Form after every single session so Dan could reconcile remaining hours.
At small scale, that's founder hustle. At hundreds of students, it's a second full-time job with no off switch. 2025 was MatchPal's best year yet, and it consumed every night and weekend Dan had. Growth had stopped being the reward and started being the cost.
The standard fix at this stage is hiring an operations coordinator, and that scales linearly: more growth, more coordinators, forever. Dan wanted to solve it once.
What we built
In October 2025, Dan brought the problem to Dalo. Four months later, MatchPal launched a client and provider portal that runs the operation end to end:
- Orders fulfill themselves. A purchase in the existing store automatically creates the client's account, sends the welcome email, and delivers the right intake questionnaire. No copy-paste, no inbox triage, nothing falling through the cracks.
- An algorithm makes the match. Intake answers feed a matching engine that ranks the provider pool and proposes the best fit. Providers accept or decline in the portal; a decline cascades to the next-ranked provider automatically. Only the rare edge case reaches Dan.
- Every session tracks itself. Scheduling, messaging, session logs, remaining credits, and provider earnings all live in the platform. The after-session Google Form is gone; the reconciliation spreadsheet is gone.
- Boot camps moved in-house. We replaced Teachable with course delivery built directly into the portal: a better client experience, natural upsells, and one less subscription.
Under the hood: Next.js and Supabase, an append-only credit ledger so client balances are always auditable, video delivery via Mux, automated fulfillment with error tracking and admin escalation, and full integration and end-to-end test suites. Built with the same rigor as the large-scale production systems we've spent our careers on, sized for a small business.
The results
Six months after launch:
| Matches made without Dan | 94% (650 of 693) |
| Orders fulfilled automatically | 449 |
| Users onboarded | 554 |
| Client–provider relationships managed in-platform | 668 |
| Sessions tracked, credited, and paid | 1,379 |
How we work
Dalo is a small team of senior engineers, by design. The people you meet are the people who write your code: no account managers, no hand-offs, no translation layer between you and the build.
We take ownership from the first conversation through launch and beyond. We learn how your business actually runs, design the system around it, and ship on the date we said we would.
